QUESTIONS WE ARE FREQUENTLY ASKED:
QUESTIONS ABOUT "GOLD QUALITY" Q. What is the quality of the gold finish?A. The quality is at least equal to conventional tank plating-pure 24K gold. The hardness, corrosion resistance, and brightness is also equal to tank plated gold. In fact, the only sure way to tell how an emblem is plated is by looking on the underside. The Samson application is selectively applied only where it is needed, tank gold is normally plated over the entire part. Q. How thick can you apply the finish?A. As thick as you want. However, most gold plated car parts are between 7 - 20 millionths of an inch thick. Samson recommends a minimum of 15 millionths of an inch thick. Brush plated gold can de deposited to 60 mils. Q. Does the gold adhere well?A. Gold adhesion is equal to, or better than, adhesion obtained from good tank plating practices. It does not adhere like paint, but molecularly bonded to the surface. It is instantly hard and requires no cure time. Q. Will the gold wear off?A. Any metal will wear with abrasive action. Gold is naturally soft metal and will scratch much more easily than chrome-plating or stainless steel. Importantly, Samson gold has .03% cobalt added for hardness and improved wear. Also, the Samson process can selectively deposit greater gold thickness on high-wear areas of a part. Q. Will the gold fade?A. No, gold does not oxidize or fade. A quality gold finish may get dirty, but proper cleaning will restore the mirror gold finish. However, if the gold is deposited too thin there will be porosity in the gold which exposes the underlying nickel. As the nickel corrodes and undermines the gold, thousands of small pits will develop on the gold finish which gives the appearance of fading gold.
QUESTIONS ABOUT "APPLICATION COSTS" Q. How many cars will 4 oz. bottle of gold plate?A. It depends on the number of emblems per car and how thick you apply the gold. On average you can plate about 100 emblems (30-35 cars) at a gold thickness of 15 millionths of an inch. Q. What is the cost of the gold solution and materials per car?A. Figure the average cost of gold solution at about $6.50 per car and the cost of other solutions $1.00 - $2.00 per car. The total material cost is then about $7.50 per car. Q. How long does it take to gold plate a car?A. The average car can be gold plated in about 25-30 min. However, plating time will depend on the make of the car, the number of emblems, and the experience of the operator.
QUESTIONS ABOUT "SUPERIOR CHEMISTRY" Q. How do your products measure-up in terms of quality?A. Samson Chemicals are the highest quality available. Our quality assurance program is mandatory for aerospace applications and requires that we purchase only high purity chemicals which must be accompanied with certifications of analysis. This same high standard of quality is extended to all Samson customers. Q. Why does Samson use a concentrated gold solution?A. Samson Gold Solution is formulated to save labor cost and ensure consistent "show quality" finish. Time is money. And while diluted gold solutions may seem to give you more for your money, they actually give you less. This is because diluted gold solutions take longer to apply and slower planting time translates into lost profits. Samson Gold Solution will minimize the time required to plate the car. Another disadvantage of slow plating solution is that it is very difficult to control the thickness. Operators have a tendency to leave "thin spots" when plating with dilute gold solutions. Conversely, Samson's customers have a reputation for providing fast, efficient service with quality results that satisfy customers! Q. How easy are the solutions to use?A. Samson Solutions are formulated specifically for ease of use. The metal concentration of all our non-precious metal plating solutions are highest obtainable for fast and efficient plating. Q. What about guaranties and warranties?A. All equipment comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
QUESTIONS ABOUT "MARKET EXPANSION" Q. Are there market opportunities other than automotive?A. Absolutely! The Samson Process is your best entree to established high growth markets such as architectural / interior design, hydraulic repair, electronics, plumbing, marine, and jewelery. Just to name a few.
